The Struggle for Empowerment of Muslim Women: A Comparative Study of India and Indonesia

Abstract

Women represent an important section of the population, playing a crucial role in the development of any country and promoting various changes in political, social, economic and cultural spheres. The paper aims to undertake a comparative study of empowerment of Muslim women in India and Indonesia. Muslim in Indonesia constitute majority of the country’s population whereas in India Muslim’s are considered as minority representation, making India second largest Muslim population of the world. India and Indonesia have shared close historical and cultural relationship. Hindu, Buddhist and Muslim faith common in both the countries reflect shared religious believes. The aim for country’s growth, prosperity, sovereignty and economic independence led both the nations come together and become founding fathers of Non-Aligned Movement immediately after Independence. Since then, both the nations have strengthened the bilateral and diplomatic relations by marking various ministerial visits and expanding the area of cooperation.
