Abstract

This paper aims to investigate the structural behaviour of alternative friction material for clutch facing component used in Automobile applications. The need of ecofriendly biodegradable materials is necessary nowadays in all automobile components. The material used in clutch facing component like asbestos causes health related problems like lung cancer when it worn out considerably. This investigation aims to analysis structural behaviour of a new clutch facing material to sort out conventional limitations. The clutch facing material considered for this investigation is basalt fiber .The material properties of basalt fiber are taken into account for static structural analysis. The data required for modelling of Clutch facing is taken from Tata Indica car. The specifications of the clutch facing used in Tata Indica car are identified, design calculations of clutch facing are performed, and modeling of clutch facing are done using Pro-E and total deformation , equivalent stresses, equivalent strain are found out by the static structural analysis using ANSYS work bench.
