Abstract

Analysis of the Press Freedom Index (IKP) in South Sumatra is an extension of the Press Independence Index conducted by the Press Council of Jakarta. This IKP is a research carried out on experts to assess press freedom in Indonesia, including in South Sumatra. This study uses a purposive survey. This survey was conducted on a group of experts in the media/press as many as 10 expert informants. The method of data collection in this study was carried out through direct interviews and secondary data collection. The results of this IKP analysis study as a whole given by expert informants can be seen in the average of 2016 at 67.08, in the somewhat free category. Whereas in 2017 with an average of 89.48 in the good category. This result was measured through three main indicators namely Physical Politics, Economics, and Law. Another result that needs to be recommended from the results of this IKP is the need for attention from various parties, both media actors, the private sector and the government, including the Press Council as the institution appointed by the president to provide oversight of the growth of the media in Indonesia. There needs to be government policy in paying attention to the professional duties of journalists and obedience to press ethics, as well as maintaining independence in reporting.
