Abstract

This study is aimed to present a web GIS implementation for spatio-temporal shoreline monitoring and projection based on historical data from the Earth observation satellite images. In order to develop a spatio-temporal based ap-plication, readiness of spatio-temporal data such as time attribute on spatial data is needed. Thus, it can seemly integrate to the Web application functions. Three study areas in peninsular Malaysia has chosen as pilot study for this application. For Malaysia case, generally there is no GIS based application on sea level rise or shoreline monitoring and projection at this moment that readily available for the coastal practitioners or publics. Furthermore, most of coastal practitioners use standalone desktop GIS to do analysis. Alternatively, the system can be used by coastal expert or public interactively to monitor historical shoreline data visually and projected shoreline changes dynamically using web browser on desktop or mobile phone.
