The Involvement of Women in Radicalism and Terrorism: Progressive Legal and Social Framework of Law Enforcement
Abstract
Komnas Perempuan (National Women Commission) stated that women in Indonesia are still vulnerable to be being victims of violence. This condition is recorded from the 2017 Annual Report. Komnas Perempuan also notes that the number of violence against women since 2010 continues to increase from year to year. The sad event as mentioned above is worsened by the phenomenon that happened recently, namely the fact of the involvement of women in terrorism crime in Indonesia. According to Densus 88 Anti-Terror Polri (Indonesian National Police - Anti Terror Squad) there are at least 8 women at the present who are involved in terrorism. Some of them have been convicted and some of them are still undergoing investigations. Of the approximately 500 Indonesian citizens who had joined ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria), according to BNPT (Indonesian National Body on Terrorism) data, the number are dominated by majority of children and women. In this paper the author tries to use a critical approach research in viewing the involvement of women in terrorism in Indonesia. The focus of the problem is to analyze the involvement of women in radicalism and terrorism: progressive legal and social framework of law enforcement.
